The nationally accredited Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum located in the center of Roscoe Village features five permanent galleries. The American Indian Gallery presents not only prehistoric tools and pottery from Ohio and southwestern tribes, but beadwork and baskets from historic tribes across the continent. The Historical Ohio Gallery offers a recreated pioneer house, as well as collections of tools, firearms, dolls and currency. The Oriental Gallery reflects the cultures of China and Japan, displaying an extensive variety of ceramics, jade and ivory carvings and lacquer ware, as well as Samurai armor and swords. The Decorative Arts Gallery exhibits American and European porcelain, glass, clothing, and the both fascinating and controversial Newark Holy Stones.
The Special Exhibit Gallery offers exhibits that change 4-5 times yearly, with a variety of delights including works by nationally known artists, regional art shows, or local history exhibits.
JHM is handicapped accessible and offers enjoyment to young and old alike. Roscoe Village sells combination tickets and schedules guided tours that include our museum. For further JHM information, call 740-622-8710.
